IN THE LATE 2000s, BlackBerry’s dramatic fall from dominance offered a stark warning about complacency to the entire tech industry. Their belief that they were unassailable led to their undoing when Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007, which quickly eroded BlackBerry’s market dominance. MOFT was started by Julianna He who lived in the Bay area but found herself travel all too frequently between US and China for work. She was constantly looking for solutions and accessories to maintain her productivity no matter where she was – in a cafe, an airport, on a flight or in a hotel lobby.
In 2019, MOFT launched their first Kickstarter for its Original Laptop Stand, characterized by a clever origami design and the use of durable materials like vegan leather and fiberglass. This innovative approach not only set a new standard in portable workstation ergonomics but also marked the beginning of MOFT’s journey in redefining workplace mobility.
Expanding Innovation: MOFT X and MOFT Z
Building on the success of their initial offering, MOFT expanded its product line to include the MOFT X and MOFT Z, each continuing the tradition of innovative design. The MOFT X utilized the same origami-inspired approach as the laptop stand, adapting it into a more versatile format that could support a variety of devices, from smartphones to tablets. In October 2020, MOFT capitalized on Apple's reintroduction of MagSafe, which brought a new wave of possibilities for accessory makers. While the market quickly became saturated with car mounts and charging solutions, MOFT saw an opportunity to go beyond the conventional. They envisioned MagSafe as a means to enhance user experience in two key lifestyle aspects: at the desk and on the move.
For users on the go, MOFT introduced the Flash Wallet & Stand and the Snap Battery Pack. The Flash Wallet & Stand, a MagSafe-compatible "flip" wallet, was designed specifically for transit users, offering a quick and stylish way to access transit passes.
